The Worst Horror Films of 2017 – Better Watch Out – Episode 245 – Horror News Radio

Hope for the best, expect the worst! That’s The Grue Crew’s motto as Horror News Radio dives head first into The Worst Horror Films of 2017 with special guest Joey Fittos. Each panelist has a fair share of dreck to wade through. There’s talk of Tom Cruise battling wrapped up Egyptians, the latest return to the Amityville House and… whatever the hell Kuso was. What other films made the list? Listen and find out! The Grue Crew also discusses Better Watch Out, the yuletide home invasion thriller. It’s Home Alone with a twist… but maybe not the one you’re thinking of. Plus, there’s still plenty of Horror News of the Week to gab about. Mainly involving the trailer for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, AMC’s historical horror mini-series The Terror and a remake of Romero’s Day of the Dead. What is this world coming to?

As always, the HNR Grue-Crew would love to hear from you, the listeners, the fans. You can always reach out via email at feedback(AT)horrornewsradio(DOT)com or find us on Twitter: Doc Rotten | Dave Dreher | Thomas Mariani. Also, like us on Facebook and join the Horror News Radio Facebook Group.

Eps 34 – Contracted

Contracted has the grue-crew squirming in their seats as the lead character, Samantha, contracts an STD that has her hemorrhaging blood, losing teeth and fingernails and…wait for it…pissing maggots.

As the stomach turns.

As Thomas shares, most people have a deep rooted fear of the human body, more specifically what can go wrong with the human body: Body Horror, Cronenberg style.

Co-hosts Doc RottenDave DreherSantos (The Black Saint) Ellin Jr.Thomas Mariani and Vixen, the Voice of Reason, recap and review Contracted while Dave brings the Horror News of the Week in this episode of Horror News Radio. It’s news about another Day of the Day remake, Jason Blum’s Haunted Houses coming to TV and Zoe Bell in Raze.

00:02:50 – Review of Contracted (2013)
Santos brings Contracted from the New York Horror Film Festival to the Horror News Radio grue. The film has the everyone at odds as Dave and Thomas enjoy the film for its imagination, gore and concept while Vixen and Doc have too much difficulty dealing with all the stupid characters, decisions and plot devices. Regardless, the film is riveting, captivating its audience until the final frame. The film preys on the fears of body horror with blood, sores, bleeding eyes and vomit. It’s nasty.

00:48:30– Horror News of the Week for 11/25/2013
Dave brings you the Horror News of the Week beginning with news of another remake of George Romero’s Day of the Dead. Next up is horror producer Jason Blum from Blumhouse Productions is returning to television bringing a new show surrounding haunted houses. Details are lost in mystery at the time of the podcast, but interest is high. Wilmer Valderrama joins Robert Rodriguez’ TV version of From Dusk Til Dawn much to Vixen’s surprise. IFC Midnight has purchased the Zoe Bell film, Raze, for release early in 2014. The documentary Playing with Fear has created a 3 minute short about the evolution of horror gaming in efforts to raise money with the crowd funding efforts.

01:02:10 – What Have You Been Watching: Day of the Doctor
Day of the Doctor leaves Thomas and Doc giddy as school kids with the 50th anniversary, 799th episode of the phenomenal BBC series, Doctor Who. David Tennant, the tenth Doctor, joins Matt Smith, the current eleventh Doctor to stand along side John Hurt as the War Doctor, who is responsible for destroying all of the Time Lords. The show is rich in science fiction, entertainment and emotionally gripping story. Vixen and Santos only recall the Tom Baker episodes from the 1970s – boy, are they in for a surprise!
