Remembering the Black Saint – Episode 235 – Horror News Radio

On this special episode of HNR, the extended Grue-Crew share their memories and thoughts of Santos Ellin, Jr. (The Black Saint) who we suddenly lost on Thursday, September 21, 2017. For over 4 and a half years Santos joined Doc, Dave, & Thomas on HNR providing his views on horror films, his wit, and his laughter. Through his generosity, his spirit, and his kind heart (hidden under that gruff exterior), Santos had a profound effect on many of the Grue-Crew family, friends, filmmakers, and fans. Tonight we spend some time reflecting on those past years sharing touching moments, bursts of surprise and laughter he provided, and the warm hugs he shared with the horror community. The Grue-Crew include Joseph Perry, Chad Hunt, Joey Fittos, Adam Thomas, Jeff Mohr, Jerry Chandler, Bill Mulligan, and Sammie Cassell; family and filmmakers include Ivan Ellin, Lou Simon, and Patrick Rea.  Fans and listeners include Jeff Larrimore, NJ Horror, Andy L., Daphne Monary-Ernsdorff, Andrew Gillis, Dallas Nostromo, Brian S., Christine Collingwood, EJ Hardin, Carrie Cook, Damian Osoteo, Tim Colley, Carlo Villafuerte, Joshua J. Hardway, Yonathan Habtemichael, Sam Brutuxan, and Martin Avalos.

RIP Santos Ellin, Jr.

RIP Santos Ellin Jr. – Episode 234 – Horror News Radio

It’s a somber mood for The Grue Crew this episode. Our Gruesome family received some devastating news this past week. Our brother in pods Santos “The Black Saint” Ellin Jr. passed on September 21st, 2017. A loyal host of the show since it started back in 2013, Santos was not just a fun voice and a bitter commenter. He was family. For this special episode of Horror News Radio, Doc Rotten, Dave Dreher, Thomas Mariani and Christopher G. Moore pay tribute to their favorite curmudgeon and try to make sense of all this sadness.

Next week, the entire HNR Grue-Crew would love to hear from you, the listeners, the fans about this untimely passing. Eps 159 – Hush – Holidays

The Grue-crew dive into a pair of horror films on VOD and streaming on Netflix. First up is the Blumhouse feature HUSH from director Mike Flanagan. The film features Kate Siegel and John Gallagher Jr. starring opposite each other as victim and predator in a tense, home-invasion thriller. Next is an anthology film centered around a years worth of holidays from Vertical Entertainment and XYZ Films called, you guessed it, HOLIDAYS. The eight segments feature directors Dennis Widmyer, Kevin Kolsch, Gary Shore, Nicholas McCarthy, Sarah Adina Smith, Anthony Scott Burns, Scott Stewart, Adam Egypt Mortimer and Kevin Smith.

Dave drives the HORROR NEWS OF THE WEEK segment sharing information about a variety of news from the previous week: ToHo releases a Godzilla trailer, Marvel shares the first teaser for Doctor Strange and Juan Antonio Bayona lands the job directing Jurassic World 2. In addition, the Grue-Crew announce the first HNR convention appearance for 2016: DragonCon (September 2 – 5, Atlanta, GA)!

Co-hosts Doc RottenSantos (The Black Saint) Ellin Jr.Dave DreherThomas Mariani and Vixen, the voice of reason, are back again this week to give you the best in horror as they recap, review and obliterate all that is horror this week! Oh, and don’t forget – Stump the Saint!
