Eps 141 – Worst Horror Films of 2015

It is that time of year once again where the Grue-crew take a look back at the past twelve months, beginning with the Worst Horror Films of 2015. The Black Saint, Dave Dreher, Thomas Mariani and Doc Rotten each compile their list of the genre films that left them miffed during this past year. The Black Saint gets ample opportunity to explain he’s been “Blum’d” while Dave reluctantly disses some film he was looking forward to but failed to impress. Thomas goes after some Hollywood heavy weights, low-budget offerings and an anime-turned-live-action Japanese feature while Doc — well — makes a few controversial choices.

Dave begins the HORROR NEWS OF THE WEEK segment with news about a 4K restoration of the 1979 classic Phantasm, the first look at the new ToHo Godzilla: Resurgence and the first trailer from Summer 2016’s sci-fi feature Independence Day: Resurgence. In the What Have You Been Watching segment, the Grue-crew cover a Black Saint recommended film Dead Body.

Co-hosts Doc RottenSantos (The Black Saint) Ellin Jr.Dave DreherThomas Mariani and Vixen, the voice of reason, are back again this week to give you the best in horror as they recap, review and obliterate all that is horror this week! Oh, and don’t forget – Stump the Saint! Review: It Follows (2015)

Young Jay (Maika Monroe) falls for a new beau succumbing to his charms. After a night of passion, she discovers the boy has passed on to her a curse where a mysterious force – a force that can take on ANY appearance – follows you until it catches you…and kills you. Jay and her friends struggle to find a way to survive. The film embraces its influences mixing them with unique and effectively simple approach to fear and horror. The grue-crew chime in with their take on this modern masterpiece.

Review: Muck (2015)

The much anticipated horror movie MUCK elicits an unexpected unilateral reaction to the film from the Grue-crew. The gore-filled creature feature from director Steve Wolsh stars horror legend Kane Hodder, Jaclyn Swedberg and Lachlan Buchanan. The story centers around a group of friends escaping the marshes surrounding Cap Cod only to find their night evolves into a living nightmare. You may never guess what the Muck happens on this episode…

Review: Valley of the Sasquatch (2015)

Bill Oberst Jr. stars in John Portanova’s well crafted Bigfoot film VALLEY OF THE SASQUATCH. The film benefits from focusing on the characters, a dysfunctional father and son dealing with the loss of the boy’s mother, relocating to a run-down family shack deep in the woods and surviving an attack from a trio of pissed-off hairy creatures hunting them down. Focusing on the family and characters, Valley of the Sasquatch delivers a strong entry into the Bigfoot sub-genre.

Review: Chappie (2015)

With the news that director Neill Blomkamp has signed on to do the next ALIEN film, all eyes are on his current theatrical release CHAPPIE. The grue-crew dive into their review of their film noting a variety of issue with the script, dialog and characters – even if Doc nervously calls it a guilty pleasure. Thomas digs into nearly every aspect of the film from Die Antwoord involvement to Hugh Jackman’s character’s motivation while Santos admits he at least enjoyed the effects for the Chappie robot.

Review: Housebound (2014)

The film that has been mentioned in many recent episodes is finally under the scrutiny of the Grue-crew. While The Black Saint mumbles about being forced to endure the film for a fourth time, the rest of the crew enjoy the film, the leads and the surprise endings. A festival favorite, HOUSEBOUND is now available on Netflix.

Limited Theatrical Engagement starts Friday, March 13th!

BEVERLY HILLS, CA – This St. Patrick’s Day, Anchor Bay Entertainment invites fans for a little bit’o the green and a LOT of the red with MUCK, a chiller seething with the greatest fear of all: that nowhere is safe! The directorial debut of Steve Wolsh, who also wrote and produced, MUCK reads like a bloody love letter filled with just the sort of jolts horror fans have been waiting to hear – and see!

Shot in state-of-the-art 4K Ultra HD resolution, MUCK is packed with old-school effects, shocks – and yes, breasts – that stick with you, creating terror with effects and stunts without the use of CGI. MUCK arrives Tuesday, March 17th – uncut, uncensored, and unrated – available on Blu-ray™ for $26.99 and $22.98 for the DVD. Pre-book on February 11th.

For fans who like their 4K horror on the big screen, MUCK will also have a limited theatrical engagement starting Friday, March 13th.

After narrowly escaping an ancient burial ground, long forgotten and buried underneath the marshes of Cape Cod, a group of friends emerge from the thick, marshy darkness, tattered and bloody, lucky to be alive. They have already lost two of their friends in the marsh, presumably dead. They stumble upon an empty Cape Cod vacation house alongside the foggy marsh and break in to take shelter. Whatever was in the marsh is still after them and soon after one of them goes for help, the rest of the group learns that the evil in the marsh is not the only thing that wants them dead. Something worse, something more savage, was lying in wait just outside the marsh, in the house. What happens next is unspeakable horror that cannot be unseen. These unlucky travelers spend their St. Patrick’s Day trapped between two evils forcing them to fight, die, or go back the way they came.

Featuring Kane Hodder (Hatchet, Jason Voorhees in four of the Friday the 13th films), Lachlan Buchanan (“Pretty Little Liars”), Puja Mohindra (Foreign), Bryce Draper (Bound) and YouTube Sensation Lauren Francesca (iwantmylauren), MUCK is throwback horror at its best.
