Stranger Things Season 2 (2017) – Jigsaw (2017) – Episode 239 – Horror News Radio

The Grue Crew is stuck in the traps of JIGSAW but doesn’t seem to be too bothered since he at least switched Netflix on to stream STRANGER THINGS Season 2. Yes, the show everyone’s talking about and the film series people cringe from vague memories of are here as fodder for the Horror News Radio crew. Joining them is award-winning filmmaker Christopher G. Moore, who suffers through the elaborate traps to get the sweet relief of his favorite show still running. But is everyone in agreement? Listen to Horror News Radio to find out! Dave Dreher also slips in some Horror News of the Week, in where we discuss the return of John Carpenter to the director’s chair, ghosts crossing with Helen Mirren in the Winchester trailer and Rob Zombie resurrecting The Firefly Family. Oh, what horrors indeed!

As always, the HNR Grue-Crew would love to hear from you, the listeners, the fans. You can always reach out via email at feedback(AT)horrornewsradio(DOT)com or find us on Twitter: Doc Rotten | Dave Dreher | Thomas Mariani. Also, like us on Facebook and join the Horror News Radio Facebook Group.

Eps 182 – Rob Zombie’s 31 (2016)

Rob Zombie returns with another grind house exercise in excess with 31. The film features Sheri Moon Zombie, Jeff Daniel Phillips, Lawrence Hilton-Jacobs, Meg Foster, Kevin Jackson, and Malcolm McDowell. The grue-crew tackle the film, available now on VOD, with a combination of eager curiosity and unshakable dread. His past film, Lords of Salem, was praised by The Black Saint but panned by Doc and Thomas. How will their reaction to 31 match up to the other films in Zombie’s filmography. Oh, dear…

Thomas reviews the third season premiere of Star Wars Rebels with the hour-long episode “Steps into Shadow.” The 3D CG animation series from Lucasfilm Animation is currently available on Disney XD and features characters such as Ezra Bridger, Kanan Jarrus, Hera Syndulla, Sbaine Wren, and Garazeb “Zeb” Orrelios along with, according to Thomas, a few fan-favorite surprises. If you’re eagerly waiting on Rogue One to debut in December, perhaps Star Wars Rebels is your fix.

Dave dives into the Horror News of the Week with the word on the passing of another horror icon, the Godfather of Gore, Herschell Gordon Lewis. Doc and Gruesome Magazine writer Paul Cardullo are heading to Wreak Havoc Film Festival in Greensboro, North Carolina this late September/early October. The Knoxville Horror Film Festival is coming October 21-23, 2016 in Knoxville, TN. Another announcement for the fall is that Horror News Radio will be at Spooky Empire in Orlando, Florida, October 7 – 9, 2016. Oh, boy! Plan your trip now.

Co-hosts Doc RottenSantos (The Black Saint) Ellin Jr.Dave Dreher and Thomas Mariani are back again this week to give you the best in horror as they recap, review and obliterate all that is horror this week! Oh, and don’t forget – Stump the Saint! (Brought to you by Gruesome Magazine)

Feature Review: Rob Zombie’s 31 (2016)

The madman musician behind House of 1000 Corpses, The Devil’s Rejects, Halloween (2007), Halloween II (2009), and Lords of Salem (2012) returns with 31. And…wow…Thomas is pissed, while The Black Saint and Dave are rather unimpressed and Doc Rotten is…apologetic. The film follows a small band of carnies making their way across country when they are kidnapped by a band of maniacs pitting them against their will against a clan of murderous clowns. They go by the names Sick-Head, Psycho-Head, Schizo-Head, Death-Head and Sex-Head. But none of them compare to the worst of the worst, Doom-Head played with zeal and charisma by the film-stealing Richard Brake. Sheri Moon Zombie, Jeff Daniel Phillips, Lawrence Hilton-Jacobs, Kevin Jackson and Meg Foster must survive 12 hours trapped in Malcolm McDowell’s murderworld known as 31.

What Have You Been Watching: Star Wars Rebels (2016)

Turning to the lighter side of the genre, Thomas takes a loving look at the Star Wars animated property Rebels, now in its third season. While The Force Awakens gets all the hype and Rogue One is stealing the spotlight, this Lucasfilm Animation series, according to young Thomas, is far closer to the spirit of Star Wars than the live action offerings Disney is producing thus far. The stories take place fourteen years after Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith and five years before the opening of Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope.
